why I stopped getting my lashes done at the salon

For probably a decade, I was a lash-appointment-every-2-to-3-weeks girl. I rarely wear makeup and my natural lashes are blonde, so having them done made my permanently tired mum face look approximately 72% more awake 😂

But between finding two uninterrupted hours, lying still for that long, the rising cost of appointments and eventually being extremely pregnant and VERY uncomfortable, I was ready for an alternative.

About two years ago, I stumbled across Underlash through an Instagram ad and decided to try DIY lash extensions, mostly to save money.

Two years later, they're one of my favourite little self-care routines. I now have a discount code with Underlash, but I still buy my lashes with my own money. I keep repurchasing them because I love using them so much. Plus they’re so quick, I usually apply them while my kid’s are in the bath causing chaos haha.

my first attempt at DIY lashes was... humbling

I was VERY skeptical about doing my own lashes… and the first time I applied them, I poked myself in the eye more times than I'd like to publicly admit 😂

I was rushing, I didn't really know what I was doing, there was a lot happening with two kids at home hahaha.

But the second time, I actually slowed down, took my time and suddenly went “ohhhhh. I get it now.”

Once I understood what I was doing, they became surprisingly easy to apply, and now I enjoy doing them. I still poke my eye here and there when the kids decide NOW is the perfect time to jump on mum 😂

It's become one of those little self-care things I can do at home, in my own time, without organising an appointment or having to lie perfectly still while my busy ADHD brain mentally reorganises my entire life.

the very important ‘don’t cry for 24 hours’ rule 😂

The only thing I need to remember after applying them is that they can't get wet for the first 24 hours.

Which means this is NOT the time for a spontaneous menty b 😂 although I’m pretty sure that rule is in place for showers and skincare haha.

After that first day, we're good for a meltdown 😂

the lashes I keep repurchasing

‘Natural’ in brown are my current favourites and what I reach for most.

I love how natural they look against my colouring, particularly because I don't wear a full face of makeup most days.

how to apply Underlash DIY lashes

My biggest tip:

don’t rush your first application! My first attempt was chaotic 😂 By my second application, when I actually slowed down and took my time, I found it SO much easier.

how long do Underlash lashes last for me?

I personally get around two weeks from mine when they're applied properly and I look after them.

Obviously everyone is different, and things like application, aftercare and your own lashes can affect how long they last.

But two weeks works beautifully for me.

It's long enough that I'm not constantly thinking about my lashes, but when it's time to redo them I can remove them and start fresh at home whenever it suits me.
